Getting Started
FromTheStart
So you have just joined up so what now? Firstly you must verify your account, you would have been sent a code to your email address you registered with, you need to copy that code and input it into the yellow surrounded box at the top of the page. Until you do this you only have limited access to the game. Once that is done I advise you go have a good look round so to familiarise yourself with what is where. Have a look at other players pages, look at the clubs, the different horse breeds. You will notice there are literally thousands of pages to the game, it is infact very easy to get lost or confused as to what everything does. So you have had a look round so now come back to your home page. To do this you need to simply click 'home' in the top navigation bar. This will bring you back to your homepage from anyone else's page (note some people are able to cover up this bar with their own links but they will always have the link they may just rename it to 'stable' or similar.)
So your at your home stable now. You will see a lovely blank page saying you own no horses or dogs and that you have a total of '0' player points and $10,000. So for now you need to worry about what your going to do with that money. Read on for how I would personally progress.
BACK TO THE TOP BuyingYourFirstHorse
Now Go to the Store here you will find you can buy a multitude of items. Most of them you should not be concerned with as only a special sort of player (explained in account types) are able to buy them. What you need to do is buy either your first horse or dog. Now on horseland you can buy either and you can buy one of many different breeds. For your first I would advise a horse rather than a dog and I would also advise you buy a fairly popular breed such as a Quarter Horse, Hanoverian, Arab, Throughbred or similar, simply because you will most likely need to sell this first horse and the value will be much higher if its a popular breed. So you have chosen the breed, next you need to choose its gender. Now on Horseland there is no point in owning a gelding so DON'T BUY ONE! Basically the way that Horseland operates there is no real need for them as they can't be used for breeding. For this reason you need to be choosing between either a stallion or a mare. Now either is acceptable especially if this first horse is sold on. Now once you have pressed the button to buy your new horse the site will tell you congrats and should bring up the horse's page. Now on this page you need fill out the name, brand, height, type and description. They are pretty self explanatory from their names. All of the boxes will be editable at a future time if you so wish to change the content with exception of the brand box IF you tick the box 'make this brand permenant' and then click the save details button. If you are planning to sell the horse (adviseable if first horse) then DO NOT brand it as it decreases its value.
Next you need to consider training your horse. Click on the training link to read up on more information regarding this topic.

BoardingStables
Now you have your horse you need to find it a stable where it can board and it can be fed. Your new horse will currently be stabled at 'the store' you should note even if you pay the board fee the store will NEVER feed your horse. To do this you need to click on the link on the horses page 'find somewhere new to board this horse' you will then be provided with a search menu. You want to select to search for active players only. I suggest you pick a letter of the alphabet at random as well so that the search is a bit quicker. You now want to find a public stable (read the players page and check that they allow boarding) where the player regulary logs on (shows last logged in either today or within 1 day) and the boarding fee is under $100 a week. then click the button 'board your horses name here'. You then need to go to your horses page again (return to your homepage via navigation bar then go down to your list of horses and select horse if necessary). Now you need to check that you have paid up to date your board fee. If you do not then your horse will not get fed which is something you obviously don't want. Infact if your board is not paid for a total of 30 days the stable owner where you board can send your horse to what is known as the Humane Association. If you do not claim it from there within 7 days it will be sold to the first person that wants it for only $100. So always have your board paid. You may find you board a horse somewhere but its not getting fed even though your paying. If its been in for over a week without being fed move stables, as if a horse isn't fed for 90 days it will be deleted from the game.

AccountTypes
There are three account types on Horseland of which one is very rare and two are regular. They are as follows
- Junior - It is very rare you see one of these accounts BUT every player under the age of 13 should be using this kind of account. The differences between a junior and any other account are that the user can not send or receive messages and also cannot view talk or edit their homepage.
- Basic - This is basically any normal player. They can not do anything special as they are the benchmark player type. Anyone who signs up for an account with exception of junior members will be basic members.
- Premium - Now premium (or premi) players are those who spend real life money in order to 'upgrade' their accounts in order to receive special priviledges. The priviledges they receive are...
- The ability to create/run shows
- The ability to post on premi only talk channels
- The ability to buy training tickets
- The ability to run for president in a HL club
- The ability to vote to elect the president of a HL club
- Collect extra money from the bank each week.
- Have your own stables where you can board your own horses and dogs.
To become a premium player you must pay $29.90 for a new upgrade or $24 for reupgrading a currently premied account (which for you English peeps like me out there translates to only £16 as of December 2004), to read up about how to upgrade click the 'upgrade info' button beneath the messages button. This is the ONLY advisable SAFE way to BUY a PREMIUM account.
The reason why there are premium accounts in the first place is so as to allow the game to function at all. It costs ALOT of money both in terms of staff and computer equipment/software to keep a game like Horseland used by thousands of players daily operational, and rather make it pay only, the owners keep the free aspect and add the pay aspect and give those who pay to play extra benefits and priviledges.

TheBank
To go to the bank go to your home page and press the link underneath where it shows how much money you have in the bank. This will take you to the bank where you can collect your money. NOTE you can only collect your money once every 7 days. If you do not collect it you can not claim it afterwards!
Basic Players (including junior players) receive $10000 per week.
Premium Players receives $200000 per week.

MakingFriends
There are thousands of people who play HL regulary all of different nationalities and ages. Most of these people are very nice, some are not so. The best way to make new friends is by selling horses, offering services, using the talk channels. Its surprising how many like minded people are out there.
Talk
You may see that HL has several talk 'channels' Most are used for advertising purposes only but Basic Talk 3 and the premium channels Arena and TackRoom are actually used to hold proper conversations. Therefore DO NOT ADVERTISE in these rooms as if you do you will get called a 'flooder' which is not good. Please be aware you should never swear, be abusive or advertise anything for real money either on the talk channels or HL in general. If you do you will almost definetly be banned from playing. See the Manners/behaviour and Important Rules sections for more details.

StableBuddies
Now you will see on your home page there is a section entitled 'stable buddies' this is designed to be an area so you can have a link on your page to your best friends on HL. If you want to add a player as a stable buddy they must first agree. If you go to that players page just below the link to send them a message there is a link to send them a stable buddy invite. They will then choose whether to accept or decline your request.
TAKE NOTE although some players are happy to have anyone as a stable buddy many players will only allow their closest friends to be on their list. Its wise to read a players page as there may be something about SB requests. Either way if your request is declined don't be disheartened its most likely just because they don't know you well enough as a person yet.
